“Without great solitude, no serious work is possible.” — Pablo Picasso

The Pod Project

The Pod Project is a series of mixed media encaustic works influenced by pods: actual pods such as engine pods, escape pods, a black hen, a social group of whales or dolphins; acronyms such as payable on death, point of delivery, planet of death, point of divergence, and one of my favorites—prince of darkness: and finally entertainment, Power of Dreams, a Dublin based pop/rock band, The Pod, a 1991 Ween album, and the growth medium for the replacement of humans in the classic move Invasion of the Body Snatchers (I prefer the original production).

Many of these things influenced this body of work. Hints of these influences can be found in the titles and the paintings.

I hope you enjoy them,

Stephen Workman
